Role Overview
As Head of Autonomy at VinDynamics, you will own the end-to-end autonomy stack for humanoid robots, from high-level decision-making to real-world execution. You will define the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for autonomous behaviors, leading the development and deployment of robust, safe, and scalable autonomy systems operating in dynamic human environments.
This role sits at the intersection of research and production, translating cutting-edge autonomy concepts into reliable, deployable robotic systems and directly shaping the long-term technology direction of VinDynamics’ humanoid platforms.
Define and own the autonomy strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap for humanoid robots.
Lead the design and evolution of behavior and decision-making frameworks enabling navigation, manipulation, and complex task execution.
Set technical standards and best practices for autonomy software across the organization.
Design, implement, and optimize autonomous behavior modules integrating perception, planning, control, and safety logic.
Drive the use of behavior trees, task planners, state machines, or hybrid approaches for scalable autonomy.
Ensure robustness under real-world uncertainty, sensor noise, and imperfect state estimation.
Collaborate closely with perception, state estimation (SLAM), controls, and hardware teams to integrate autonomy software with robot platforms.
Own autonomy-related system architecture with a focus on modularity, scalability, and maintainability.
Oversee interfaces between autonomy, middleware, and low-level control systems.
Establish simulation-first development workflows and validation pipelines using tools such as Gazebo or Isaac Sim.
Define performance metrics, safety checks, and test scenarios to validate autonomy behavior before and after deployment.
Lead real-world testing and iteration on humanoid robot platforms.
Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing autonomy engineering team.
Work cross-functionally with hardware, perception, controls, system integration, and product teams to deliver production-ready autonomy.
Participate in technical planning, architecture reviews, and code reviews to ensure engineering excellence.
Master's or PhD in computer science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of professional experience in robotics software development, with strong focus on autonomy systems.
Proven experience leading or owning complex robotics software systems.
Strong proficiency in C++ and Python.
Hands-on experience with ROS / ROS2, Linux, and modern software development workflows (Git, CI/CD).
Solid understanding of perception and sensor fusion (LiDAR, cameras, IMU), localization, and state estimation.
Strong knowledge of autonomous navigation, motion planning, and behavior design paradigms.
Experience with behavior trees, task and motion planning (TAMP), and autonomous decision-making systems.
Familiarity with simulation environments such as Gazebo or Isaac Sim.
Background in perception or scene understanding (classical or deep learning-based).
Experience with real-time systems, middleware, and performance optimization.
Track record of bringing autonomy research into production-grade robotic systems.
Contributions to open-source robotics projects, academic publications, or robotics competitions.
Opportunity to build cutting-edge autonomy for humanoid robots deployed in real-world environments.
Direct influence on product design and long-term autonomy technology direction.
Collaboration with a world-class, multidisciplinary robotics team.
Competitive compensation and benefits aligned with VinGroup standards.
