The Lead Robotics Software Engineer will provide technical leadership for the architecture, development, integration, and deployment of production-grade robotics software at VinRobotics.
This role will lead software development across Autonomous Mobile Robots, robotic manipulators, humanoid robots, and smart logistics systems. The position requires strong hands-on engineering capability, system-level architecture experience, and the ability to guide engineers across multidisciplinary robotics projects.
Define scalable and reusable software architectures for robot systems, AMRs, manipulators, mobile manipulators, and humanoid robots.
Own major technical decisions across robot-level, fleet-level, and enterprise-level software systems.
Translate product and operational requirements into software architecture, interfaces, technical roadmaps, and implementation plans.
Lead hardware-software integration with sensors, actuators, motor controllers, embedded systems, commercialized robots, and industrial equipment.
Define interfaces between robots, Fleet Management Systems, WES, WMS, ERP, MES, and other factory systems.
Support integration with warehouse, production, inventory, and material-handling workflows.
Analyze and optimize robot behaviors, software performance, fleet throughput, cycle time, task allocation, and energy usage.
Apply control theory, mathematical optimization, operations research, and data-driven approaches to improve robotic performance.
Lead root-cause analysis for complex system, integration, and production issues.
Establish engineering standards for software design, coding, testing, documentation, CI/CD, configuration management, and release processes.
Define simulation, SIL, HIL, regression, endurance, and field-validation strategies.
Lead robot commissioning, site testing, acceptance testing, and production deployment.
Lead architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews.
Mentor robotics software engineers and support technical competency development.
Contribute to engineering planning, task estimation, technical risk management, recruitment, and onboarding.
Collaborate with DevOps, Solution Architecture, QA, and Deployment teams.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Control Engineering, or a related field.
At least 7 years of software engineering experience, including 5 years working with real robotic or autonomous systems.
Proven experience leading the technical development of a robotic platform, product, or major software subsystem.
Advanced proficiency in modern C++ and Python.
Extensive experience with ROS2 and Linux-based development environments.
Strong understanding of distributed robotic architectures and multi-layered software stacks.
Strong expertise in at least two of the following:
SLAM and localization.
Autonomous navigation and motion planning.
Robot manipulation.
Humanoid locomotion or whole-body control.
Perception and sensor fusion.
Multi-robot systems and fleet management.
Task planning and behavior planning.
Strong knowledge of control theory, linear algebra, numerical methods, and optimization.
Hands-on experience deploying, testing, and debugging software on physical robots.
Strong knowledge of multithreading, concurrency, distributed systems, software design patterns, automated testing, and CI/CD.
Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead cross-functional technical decisions.
Experience with AMRs, AGVs, autonomous forklifts, or industrial mobile robots.
Experience with industrial manipulators, collaborative robots, mobile manipulators, or humanoid platforms.
Experience with ROS2 Navigation, MoveIt, ros2_control, BehaviorTree.CPP, Open-RMF, or equivalent frameworks.
Experience with fleet management, traffic management, mission orchestration, and task scheduling.
Experience integrating robotics systems with ERP, WMS, WES, MES, or warehouse control systems.
Knowledge of warehouse operations, production logistics, inventory management, and material flow.
Experience with Mixed-Integer Programming, vehicle routing, graph optimization, trajectory optimization, or Model Predictive Control.
Experience with REST, gRPC, MQTT, OPC UA, DDS, CAN, EtherCAT, or Modbus.
Familiarity with NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Isaac Lab, MuJoCo, Gazebo, Webots, MATLAB, or Simulink.
Experience with machine learning or reinforcement learning for robotics.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CUDA, embedded Linux, real-time systems, cybersecurity, or high-availability architectures.
Experience deploying robotic systems in factories, warehouses, or other production environments.
Reports directly to the Deployment & Scale-up Director. Works closely with Solution Architecture, Deployment, and QA teams to ensure continuous improvement of deployed systems.
