Role Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled Firmware/AI Tuning Engineer to optimize embedded firmware and AI algorithms that power robotic systems. This role involves performance tuning, firmware development, and AI model refinement to enhance robotic motion, perception, and autonomy. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in low-level control systems, embedded C/C++ development, and applied AI techniques for robotics.
Core Responsibilities
1. Firmware Optimization & Control Systems
Develop, tune, and validate firmware modules for motion control, sensor fusion, and real-time operations.
Analyze performance bottlenecks in control loops, communication protocols, and real-time scheduling.
Implement low-level algorithms for PID, MPC, and state estimation to optimize actuator performance.
Collaborate with hardware teams to validate performance against design specifications and hardware constraints.
2. AI Model Tuning & Validation
Fine-tune AI models for vision, navigation, and decision-making modules in robotic systems.
Evaluate and optimize model inference performance for embedded environments (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, Intel Movidius).
Work with data engineers to curate datasets and establish training pipelines for performance enhancement.
Conduct A/B testing and offline simulations to evaluate algorithm improvements under varied conditions.
3. System Integration & Testing
Integrate firmware and AI components within the robot’s full software stack and perform end-to-end validation.
Use hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing to ensure robustness and reliability.
Debug and optimize system latency, sensor feedback synchronization, and safety mechanisms.
Document integration results and ensure compatibility with overall robotic system architecture.
4. Continuous Improvement & Collaboration
Collaborate with AI researchers, firmware engineers, and robotics software teams to improve system intelligence and control fidelity.
Benchmark new algorithms and technologies for performance, stability, and scalability.
Provide technical guidance on firmware and AI co-optimization for energy efficiency and compute balance.
Maintain thorough documentation and contribute to coding standards and firmware libraries.
Required Skill Set
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, control systems, or robotics AI tuning.
Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python for embedded and algorithmic programming.
Experience with microcontrollers (ARM Cortex, STM32, or ESP32) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
Deep understanding of control theory, sensor fusion, and embedded optimization techniques.
Familiarity with AI frameworks such as TensorRT, PyTorch, or ONNX Runtime for edge AI deployment.
Strong debugging and performance analysis skills using tools like JTAG, Logic Analyzers, and profilers.
Nice to Have
Experience with ROS/ROS2 and real-time robotic middleware integration.
Knowledge of CUDA optimization and GPU-based AI acceleration.
Exposure to SLAM, reinforcement learning, or computer vision algorithms.
Familiarity with safety-critical systems and ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 standards.
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the R&D Manager or Technical Director. Collaborates closely with AI Engineers, Robotics Software Developers, and Hardware Teams to achieve optimal system performance.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based in the R&D lab and involves regular testing on robotic platforms. Occasional travel may be required for system validation and collaborative development with suppliers or research partners.
