Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Integration Engineer (PLC/OT) to design, implement, and maintain communication and control systems that connect robotic platforms with industrial production lines. This role focuses on bridging the gap between operational technology (OT) and robotics, ensuring seamless data and control flow between PLCs, SCADA, MES, and robotic systems. The ideal candidate has strong expertise in PLC programming, network configuration, and field integration across industrial automation systems.
Core Responsibilities
1. System Integration & Control Logic Design
Design and program PLC control logic for integration between robotic systems, conveyors, and auxiliary devices.
Develop and validate interlock mechanisms, safety logic, and handshaking signals between equipment and robots.
Configure and test industrial communication protocols such as Modbus/TCP, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, or OPC-UA.
Create detailed I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and signal maps to support system implementation.
2. On-site Commissioning & Troubleshooting
Lead on-site installation, configuration, and debugging of PLC-based control systems.
Support robotic system commissioning and ensure synchronization between PLC and robot controllers.
Perform root-cause analysis for control and communication issues during system startup.
Calibrate sensors, actuators, and feedback devices to ensure stable and reliable system operation.
3. OT Network Configuration & Data Integration
Design and configure OT-level networks ensuring proper VLAN segmentation and device addressing.
Work with MES and IT teams to implement data acquisition and equipment monitoring strategies.
Develop OPC-UA and MQTT-based interfaces for real-time data exchange and system coordination.
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies and establish secure communication channels for connected devices.
4. Documentation & Support
Prepare technical documentation including PLC programs, connection diagrams, and configuration manuals.
Train maintenance personnel on control system operation and troubleshooting procedures.
Provide post-deployment support and system optimization based on production feedback.
Maintain version control and change management for PLC and SCADA software releases.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
5+ years of experience in PLC programming, commissioning, and integration within industrial automation environments.
Strong proficiency with PLC platforms such as Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000, or Mitsubishi GX Works.
Hands-on experience with SCADA and HMI systems (e.g., Ignition, WinCC, FactoryTalk).
Deep understanding of industrial communication protocols and OT networking fundamentals.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to work independently in the field.
Nice to Have
Knowledge of MES systems and data integration (SQL, REST API, OPC-UA).
Experience with robot integration (Fanuc, ABB, Universal Robots, Omron).
Understanding of industrial cybersecurity and network segmentation practices.
Familiarity with electrical design tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Deployment Lead or Technical Manager. Works closely with Robotics Software Engineers, System Architects, and Field Technicians during system commissioning and integration.
Work Environment
This role involves both office-based system design and on-site field integration work. Frequent travel to customer facilities is expected for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. The position requires close collaboration with cross-functional engineering and operations teams.
