ABOUT THE POSITION

The AI Product Manager (Education & Research) builds and leads the AI product team at the Center for AI Research and manages a portfolio of AI products for learning, teaching and research at VinUniversity. The role establishes the team, data foundations and AI-first practices, using AI tools throughout product and engineering work to help a small team deliver effectively. Responsibilities include user research, product roadmaps, rapid prototyping and pilots, and evidence-based decisions on which initiatives to continue, scale or stop. The Product Manager manages the team's budget, ensures products comply with Vingroup's processes, and represents the portfolio to University leadership, business owners and partners. The role requires strong product judgment: understanding what makes a good experience for learners and instructors and assessing whether an AI feature delivers meaningful value to users.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. AI Strategy, Roadmap & Portfolio Management

Strategy, Roadmap & Prioritization

• Own the roadmap for AI in learning, teaching and research, aligned with the AI-Empowered University strategy and its targets; set priorities for each milestone and exclude work that does not address user needs or strategic objectives.
• Define each initiative's product vision, including the user problem, intended users, rationale for acting now and expected benefits. Use this vision to align leadership, the team and partners.
• Explore how products scale beyond the first pilots — across the University, within the Vingroup ecosystem, and towards partnership or commercial models — and present evidence-based options to leadership.

Portfolio & Value Management

• Review portfolio usage, quality, risk and user outcomes using product analytics and AI evaluations; recommend whether to continue, scale, redesign or retire products.
• Turn results into evidence for University reporting, publication and external recognition.

1. Product Discovery, Experimentation & Innovation

Discovery & Definition

• Lead research with learners, instructors, faculty and research administrators to identify problems worth solving and assess relevant existing solutions.
• Define success metrics for each initiative.
• Define user experience standards for each product, assess the experience directly and with users, and ensure the team meets those standards.

Rapid Experimentation

• Lead rapid cycles of prototyping, user pilots and evaluation before committing to full development.
• Define what to prototype, how to evaluate it, and what data and labeling are required, with support from research assistants and academic advisors.
• Stay current with AI developments, identify opportunities for the product portfolio, and lead the team in testing and adopting promising technologies.

1. Delivery, Quality & Operations

Readiness, Release & Quality

• Accept releases against agreed success criteria and agree go-live conditions with business owners.
• Ensure every product passes Vingroup's architecture, security and AI-risk reviews before and after go-live. Coordinate these reviews with VinSmart Future and VinSOC through the DevSecOps Engineer.

Operations & Continuous Improvement

• Remain accountable for products in operation, ensuring monitoring, incident response and user support arrangements are in place.
• Review usage, AI output quality and user feedback regularly, and set improvement priorities across the portfolio.

1. AI Adoption & Literacy

AI Literacy & Adoption Support

• Contribute to AI literacy and responsible-use guidance for faculty, researchers and staff; support training, demonstrations and peer learning communities that help users adopt the products.
• Work with academic leaders and users to identify adoption barriers and capability gaps, and address them.

1. Team Leadership, Governance & Stakeholder Management

Team Building & AI-First Ways of Working

• Build the AI product team from the ground up: define its structure and roles, recruit and onboard core and contracted members with Human Resources, and support each person's development through clear goals and regular feedback.
• Establish AI-first practices across user research, requirements, coding, testing, documentation and reporting to improve the team's effectiveness. Set regular planning and review routines, select tools and define how they are used, and apply them directly in your own work.

Budget, Governance & Stakeholders

• Plan annual budgets and spending schedules for people, infrastructure, model usage, evaluation data and services; manage expenditure against approved plans, oversee contracts and vendors, and report to Finance and leadership.
• Establish delivery standards, review and decision-making processes, and team performance indicators.
• Work with colleges, the Library, the Research Management Office, Vingroup's platform and security teams, vendors and external partners; communicate plans, progress and risks plainly to technical and non-technical audiences.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Education or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years' experience in product management, including at least 3 years working on AI or machine learning products and hands-on experience with LLM- or agent-based products.
• Track record of taking products from early development through user adoption and ongoing improvement, including establishing product operations.
• Experience leading a product or cross-functional team, including recruiting and developing team members.
• Experience planning and controlling a project or product budget.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools and agents in product and engineering work, with the ability to design team workflows that incorporate them.
• Strong product judgment: ability to assess usefulness and ease of use, translate ambiguous needs into prioritized plans with measurable outcomes, explain evidence-based decisions, and discontinue unsuccessful initiatives.
• Data-driven decision-making: ability to define product metrics and data requirements from the outset and directly analyze product and AI evaluation data to guide priorities; experience organizing data preparation and labeling for AI systems.
• Understanding of generative AI applications, including large language models (LLMs), retrieval and evaluation, sufficient to guide engineers and assess product quality, data privacy, security and responsible AI practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication in Vietnamese and English, including presenting to senior leadership.

1. Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in education technology, learning platforms or academic research tools.
• Experience in early-stage or founding teams, building products and operations from the ground up.
• Familiarity with research methods or academic settings: a research degree, publications, or experience working alongside researchers or teaching.
• Experience working under governance requirements in a large organization, including financial planning and reporting.
• Experience building AI literacy and organizational adoption through training and user engagement.
