How You’ll Make an Impact

The decision engine decides, for every account in a large consumer portfolio, whether we reach out, through which channel, when, and how often. As a Data Scientist on the Data Science team you own the harder half of that: what the engine is optimizing for, what it is allowed to do, and the honest read on what a change actually recovered.

This is a profit and loss seat, not a reporting seat. The scope is deliberately broad: modeling, experiment design, unit economics, and the conversation with management and with clients, in one pair of hands. Recommendations you make are executed on a real portfolio within the week, and the outcome comes back to you in money. It suits someone strong technically who wants the judgment side of data science and is willing to own the call.

What You’ll Do

Objective and Strategy

• Own the objective the engine is optimized against — profit net of cost — and keep it tied to a business number rather than a proxy.
• Set what the engine is allowed to do: who we work with, through which channel, when, and how hard.

Portfolio Economics and Experiments

• Own the economics of the portfolio — recovery against cost, per client and per cohort — and reallocate spend to where the next dollar is cheapest.
• Design the experiments and holdouts that grade a strategy change, and separate the engine effect from portfolio mix and seasonality.

Measurement, Judgment and Influence

• Own the metric definitions and the monitoring, so a number quoted in a review means the same thing next quarter.
• Present performance and recommendations to senior management and to clients, and own the call you make.
• Mentor junior data scientists and analysts on method, rigor, and how to challenge a result.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Background

• Postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or equivalent experience preferred.
• 4 to 6 years of professional experience applying statistical and machine learning solutions to business problems.
• Strong hands-on experience in machine learning, statistics, and experimentation, including experiment design and causal measurement on observational data.
• Strong Python and SQL, and comfort working directly on large datasets without waiting for a curated table.
• Experience owning a decisioning, targeting, or portfolio strategy problem where the metric was a business outcome rather than a model score is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with bank-related products such as unsecured personal loans and credit cards is preferred.
• Experience with big data processing is a plus.
• Startup or tech background is a strong plus.

How You Work

• You use AI as leverage on the analysis itself — building models, exploring data, running more variants than you could by hand — and you check what comes back against evidence before it drives a decision.
• You don't wait for a spec to test an idea. You form the hypothesis, run it, and bring the result to the table.
• You move between modeling, operations, and the client conversation without needing a handoff, and you can hold a room of non-technical stakeholders.
• You treat a failed experiment as information and keep raising your own bar on method, without being told to.

Skills & Competencies

• Domain Expert — Teaches method and rigor to others; edge cases are covered and documented rather than carried in one person's head.
• Product Architect — Prototypes a working decisioning strategy, reads the metrics it produces, and iterates before anyone has to ask.
• AI Engineer/Architect — Ships end-to-end ML systems, owning the path from data pipeline to production decision.
• AI Operator — Keeps the engine running above target at controlled cost, catching a drifted model or a broken input before it reaches the portfolio.
• Strong English communication skills (spoken and written — professional fluency required).
• High adaptability and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
