Job description
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, management, performance, and security of all of Qualgo's database systems. This is a hands-on role requiring expertise across a wide range of database technologies, including traditional relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL), NoSQL databases (e.g., Redis, Elasticsearch), and cloud-based data warehouses and database services. You will work closely with the Head of Infrastructure, software engineering teams, data science teams, and the security team to ensure that our database infrastructure is reliable, scalable, secure, and performant.
Key responsibilities
- Database Design & Implementation:
- Design, implement, and manage database systems to meet the needs of Qualgo's applications and services.
- Choose appropriate database technologies for different use cases (relational, NoSQL, data warehouse).
- Develop and maintain database schemas, tables, indexes, and stored procedures.
- Implement data models and ensure data integrity.
- Database Administration & Maintenance:
- Perform routine database administration tasks, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and backups.
- Monitor database performance and identify areas for optimization.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery for critical database systems.
- Manage database security, including access control, encryption, and auditing.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization:
- Optimize database performance for speed, scalability, and efficiency.
- Tune SQL queries and database configurations.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
- Cloud Database Management:
- Manage cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, Google Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, Azure SQL Database, Cosmos DB).
- Manage cloud-based data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift).
- Optimize cloud database costs and resource utilization.
- NoSQL Database Management:
- Manage and administer NoSQL databases, specifically Redis and Elasticsearch.
- Design and implement data models for NoSQL databases.
- Optimize NoSQL database performance and scalability.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with software engineering teams to design and implement database solutions.
- Collaborate with data scientists to support their data storage and access needs.
- Work with the security team to ensure the security of all database systems.
- Work with infrastructure and DevOps.
- Documentation:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation for all database systems.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Extensive experience with relational database management systems (RDBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle.
- Strong experience with NoSQL databases, specifically Redis and Elasticsearch.
- Experience with cloud-based database services (AWS, GCP, Azure). Specific experience with the cloud provider(s) Qualgo uses is essential.
- Experience with cloud-based data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift). Specific experience with the data warehouse(s) Qualgo uses is essential.
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
- Experience with database security best practices.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for database automation.
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Experience working in Vietnam or Southeast Asia is a plus.
- Skills:
