About the Role
We are looking for a QA Engineer who takes full ownership of product quality and works in an automation-first, AI-assisted way.
In this role you are accountable for the quality of what ships. You plan and run testing across web and mobile, you assess whether a release is ready, and you raise risks early enough that they can still be addressed. Alongside that ownership, you help move testing away from repetitive manual execution and towards automated coverage that runs as part of the delivery pipeline, and you use AI tools as a regular part of how you work.
We are open to candidates at both Middle and Senior level. At Middle level, we expect you to own quality for your product area with strong fundamentals and a working level of automation. At Senior level, we additionally expect you to shape testing strategy, build and maintain automated coverage that the team relies on, and raise the standard of practice around you.
Responsibilities
- Own quality for your product area. Plan and run testing across web and mobile, maintain the regression coverage for your area, and provide a clear, evidence-based readiness assessment for each release.
- Prevent defects at the specification stage. Review designs, specifications and acceptance criteria before development begins, and raise gaps, ambiguities and missing edge cases while they are still inexpensive to fix.
- Test with judgement, not only with checklists. Prioritise coverage by risk, give feedback on the product experience as well as on defects, and explain the reasoning behind what you choose to test.
- Work closely with the squad. Partner with product, design and engineering throughout the delivery cycle, communicate quality status clearly, and keep testing aligned with what is actually being built.
- Use AI tools in your daily work. Apply AI assistance to test design, defect analysis, reproduction and documentation, and share the practices that work with the rest of the team.
- Grow automated coverage. Write and maintain automated tests for the areas that benefit most from them, and steadily reduce the volume of repeated manual execution.
- Bring automation into the delivery pipeline. Help move test suites into CI/CD so they run automatically on each change, and keep them stable enough that the team trusts the results.
Requirements
- 2 or more years in software quality assurance for web and mobile products.
- Strong QA fundamentals: test design, risk-based prioritisation, regression planning and clear defect reporting.
- Experience owning quality for a product area through a full release cycle, including assessing release readiness.
- Ability to read a specification or design and identify what is missing from it, not only test what is written in it.
- Working experience with at least one test automation framework such as Cypress, Playwright or Selenium, with the ability to write and maintain your own tests.
- Basic scripting ability in JavaScript or Python.
- API testing experience, including authentication, test data setup and validating responses beyond the status code.
- Practical familiarity with CI/CD and how automated tests run within a pipeline.
- Regular use of AI tools in your own work, with specific examples of what you use them for.
- Attention to the user experience, with the ability to explain why a flow does or does not work well.
- Good written and spoken English for working with product and engineering stakeholders.
- Ownership mindset, with the ability to follow an issue through to closure without being reminded.
Preferred Skills
- Experience building or restructuring an automation suite that other people relied on.
- Experience integrating automated tests into a CI/CD pipeline.
- Experience testing AI or machine learning powered features, where the output is not identical between runs.
- Mobile testing experience across iOS and Android, including test builds and device coverage.
- Experience introducing or improving a QA process, rather than only operating one that already exists.
- Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of other QA engineers.
- Exposure to performance or load testing.
